Breanna Keown Company is committed to promoting the welfare of every child and protecting them from harm. Children should be listened to, treated with respect and able to take part in a safe, welcoming environment. Safeguarding takes priority over commercial or reputational concerns.
Who this statement applies to
This statement applies to Breanna Keown, instructors, contractors and anyone acting on behalf of Breanna Keown Company. It covers children and young people under 18 who take part in our public classes or sessions delivered in nurseries, schools and other settings.
How we put it into practice
We aim to use appropriate recruitment and vetting, maintain relevant DBS arrangements, provide safeguarding expectations and respond to concerns through written procedures. Instructors should work within their role, use appropriate conduct and share concerns rather than investigating them personally.
We also maintain expectations for supervision, physical contact, photography, online communication, information handling and responding to allegations about an adult working with children.
Breanna must approve the underlying procedures, safer-recruitment process, code of conduct and training arrangements that support this public statement.
Supervision during sessions
For public Little Dancer and Storybook Ballet classes, a parent or responsible caregiver remains at the venue. For setting sessions, at least one responsible adult from the setting remains present in addition to the instructor. The supervising adult or setting retains responsibility for toileting, personal care and collection arrangements.
Equality and listening to children
Safeguarding applies equally to every child. We recognise that disability, communication needs, discrimination, age or previous experiences can make some children more vulnerable or make it harder to speak about a concern. We will take children seriously and consider how they communicate.
Raising a concern about a child
If you are worried about a child in connection with our work, contact the safeguarding lead using the details below. Do not use an ordinary website form for urgent or highly sensitive information.
If a child is in immediate danger, call 999. In Suffolk, concerns about a child at risk of harm, abuse or neglect can be reported to Customer First on 0808 800 4005 or through the Suffolk safeguarding referral service.
Concerns about an adult working with children
A concern or allegation about an instructor or another adult working with children must be reported promptly to the safeguarding lead. The matter may need to be referred to the Local Authority Designated Officer, police, Disclosure and Barring Service or another appropriate authority. We will not promise confidentiality where information must be shared to protect a child.
Safeguarding contact
Confirm the named safeguarding lead, a monitored safeguarding email or telephone route, who acts if the concern involves that person, and the date this statement is formally approved.

Records and privacy
Safeguarding information is recorded factually, stored securely and shared only with people or authorities who need it. Safeguarding records may need to be retained separately from routine booking records. Our Privacy Policy provides wider information about personal data.
Review and approval
This statement should be reviewed at least annually and sooner after a safeguarding incident, a material legal change or a significant change to the way sessions are delivered.
Add the approval date, next review date and Breanna’s signed approval before publication.
